I hope everyone is enjoying their week off! Even though the weather has been rainy, I've enjoyed my break so far. My personal goal was to read The Hunger Games. I decided it was time to give in to all the peer pressure and just read it. So far, it is very good!! How many of you are seeing the movie this weekend? I know my daughter has midnight tickets...
Thinking back to school now, our last couple weeks have been very busy! The class did an outstanding job on the reading assessment. I was very proud of the personal dedication each student made. They have really made the decision to invest in their own success. No matter how much we (teachers and parents) want them to succeed, it has to be their decision to make it possible. They are all growing and maturing into responsible young people.
We have one week of school before our math assessment. The students will be taking part in some math review next week. During our regular math time, each teacher is providing a review of one large skill for two days. The classes will rotate through the teachers. In the afternoons, we will be doing individual review based on the Early Warning results and some more recent assessments. Students will be grouped into smaller groups based on their areas of weakness. I'm positive the class will put the same amount of effort and dedication into the math state assessment as they did the reading assessment. We will send home a letter with your child's assessment scores once all testing is complete.
Once I communicate with Mrs. Slack and Mrs. Norton about science and writing, I will update with any upcoming tests or projects.
Enjoy the rest of your spring break!

Weekly Update!
Thank you for attending parent/teacher conferences! I truly enjoyed visiting with you about your child's progress. I am so impressed with the effort I have seen lately, and I know all of the hard work will pay off.
State assessments are right around the corner. We will take the reading state assessment on March 6-8 and the math assessment on April 3-5. Please stress the importance of these assessments to your child and share your expectations of them. This is one of the ways he/she can show you all of the learning and hard work that has taken place this year. Giving their best effort will ensure that their scores truly reflect their abilities.
Tuesday: Math pre-test for Unit 7: Algebra
Wednesday: Spelling lists coming home - Test date is 2/29
Thursday: Skating Party
Friday: Geometry Quiz - They will have a study guide to bring home. They will need to identify the 8 basic 3-D shapes, know what a vertex, face, and edge are, and identify the 3-D shapes based on different views (top view, side view, bottom view).

100 Days of School!
Today was the 100th day of school and we were able to dress like we are a 100 years old. We have people to prove it. Cade and Michael dressed up like old men. With the big beard is Cade (he is one of our STAC reps) and Michael is the one with suspenders and the glasses. Well, I can't believe there has been 100 days of school already. This year is giong so fast. If you agree, tell us and we are going to see who thinks the year went fast and who thinks the year didn't go fast. So comment if you can.

Halloween!
We had a lot of fun on Halloween! We had plenty of games and food. Thank you, to all the parents that helped. You made the party awesome! We have videos of some people doing the games, check the videos out. The most fun part about the games was we only had a minute to win it! One of the games was blowing all the ping pong balls off a tray except for the ones with pumpkin faces on them. Another was bouncing ping pong balls on a desk, and into a cup. The third game was sucking an M&M on to the end of a straw and placing it on top of another straw. The fourth one was bobbing your head up and down 125 times. The fifth one was putting a plate on top of your head, and stacking 6 blocks on top of one another, and the last game was putting a craft stick in your mouth and stacking 5 dice on top of one another and then holding them there for at least 3 seconds. For the book character parade, we walked around the parking lot while all the parents watched us and all of our different and cool costumes. As you can see we had tons of fun on Halloween!!!
